Rubber playground flooring tiles and mats, Fall rated interlocking rubber playground flooring tiles

For safe and durable rubber playground mats, count on Greatmats to have the perfect product in stock. We sell multiple types of playground mats, offering various colors and price points.

Our mats create a safe rubber recycled playground flooring surface, fitting under swings and slides. Or when the goal is to cover a huge area, our tiles have interlocking edges to simplify the installation process.

For those who want fall height ratings in rubber playground tiles, Greatmats has numerous options. Our playground flooring will work either indoors or outdoors. It has the perfect mix of durability and safety for kids and adults using the playground area.

Playground Mats and Tiles

Playground flooring tiles from Greatmats often feature a recycled rubber construction. This material works nicely in any outdoor climate or extreme temperature situation.

Playground Flooring Rubber Mats

With all of the Greatmats playground materials, our designers have focused on creating safe outdoor playground flooring options for children. Customers then can focus on other aspects of the interlocking surface design and equipment.

For playgrounds that will be open to the public, the playground surfaces likely must follow local and state safety regulations.

Many playgrounds contain equipment where children will be playing above the ground. For swings, slides, or climbing playground equipment, local regulations must be followed for fall safety ratings. Such ratings indicate the capability of the surface to reduce the severity of head injuries from a fall.

Playground flooring is assigned a fall safety rating. This is based on the thickness, construction materials, and surface density of the mats. Start a search for the right playground swing mats by determining which fall rating is required. Eliminate any products that don’t meet the minimum rating.

Rubber Playground Mats

Our customers often end up focusing on playground rubber mat products in their searches. Rubber playground tiles offer cushioned playing surface options that also provide a sure footing for kids. These tiles use recycled tires. So this type of playground safety flooring has some environmental benefits too.

Just as importantly, rubber playground flooring provides a high level of durability. This slip resistant material will not freeze and crack in extreme winter temperatures, because rubber does not absorb water.

Rubber stands up nicely to constant sun exposure. Most of these rubber products carry a warranty of at least 5 years. However, we actually expect this rubber playground surface to provide up to 20 years of life outdoors.

Cheap playground flooring simply cannot match up to the durability of playground matting from Greatmats. Buying playground tiles cheap doesn't give the long lifespan of the high quality outdoor playground flooring options from Greatmats.

Installing cheap outdoor playground flooring Home Depot offers won’t provide longevity. These products can’t match Greatmats’ tiles for quality.

Another advantage of playground rubber flooring is the large number of colors we offer. Don’t assume basic black is the only option when choosing interlocking playground tiles. Multiple bright and subdued colors are available.

Some of our customers will mix and match these rubber tiles. They may even create logos or words in the mats to reflect the city, school, or organization that installed the playground.

PVC Plastic Playground Flooring Tiles

Another option for interlocking tiles in an indoor or outdoor installation is PVC plastic. Greatmats stocks many different types of PVC playground mats in varying levels of hardness. Harder tiles are durable, while softer tiles offer some flexibility and comfort.

One advantage of PVC versus rubber for the surface of a playground is the lack of odor with PVC plastic. Rubber can have a noticeable odor for a while after installation.

Some of our customers prefer to use PVC plastic in an indoor area, where the odor of rubber can linger. We often recommend using PVC with a solid subsurface when planning an indoor installation.

PVC playground tiles are durable enough to use in outdoor installations, as they’re waterproof. When using PVC tiles in an outdoor playground, look for a design with a perforated surface, which allows water to drain away.

With a raised base design in PVC playground tiles, air can flow beneath the tiles. This airflow removes moisture, reducing the chance of odor, mildew, and mold forming under the tiles.

Indoor Playground Flooring Mats and Tiles

For safe indoor playground flooring material, we offer a 1.5 inch thick foam tile. It features a 4 ft ASTM fall height rating. This tile is easy to install over any hard flat surface. Simply lay the tiles on the ground and interlock them together.

Interlocking foam tiles are a popular option for indoor playground tile installation. These tiles are made of a closed cell EVA foam, which helps to keep moisture, mold, and bacteria from penetrating into the tiles. This results in a healthier and safer play environment for kids.

Our indoor playground foam mat is the softest indoor playground floor option that we offer. It's a forgiving, comfortable safety surfacing that is designed for no-shoe use.

Greatmats Indoor Playground Tiles are soft, forgiving, and perfect for indoor play spaces. The reversible tiles feature a different color on each side. Easily create fun patterns and customize the space with these tiles.

Artificial Grass Outdoor Playground Mat Surfaces

For a more natural looking appearance, consider artificial turf and grass tiles. These products are ideal for spaces that will be used for running and jumping.

Artificial playground turf creates a lush surface that is comfortable on bare feet. This flooring doesn't require any of the maintenance that actual turf needs.

Please note that artificial turf makes for a beautiful play surface, but it does not offer any fall protection. Artificial turf should not be used in play areas where climbing equipment is present.

Playground Tiles Colors

With Greatmats' huge selection of playground surface options, a nearly endless number of color design possibilities are available. Each product has many bright, eye-catching options available. Many of our customers incorporate their branding, school, or sports team's colors in the surface for a unique appearance.

Playground Flooring Sizing and Installation

Playground surfacing may consist of poured and loose fill surfaces as well as playground mats and tiles. Greatmats decided to offer playground rubber mats and tiles because they are easier to install and repair versus poured surfaces or playground rubber mulch.

If a tile or mat becomes damaged or worn, just replace that single element, rather than having to repair or replace an entire flooring surface or section. Mats and tiles don't need the ongoing maintenance that is associated with loose-fill materials like sand, wood chips, or rubber crumbs.

Mat and tile playground floors won't conceal hazardous objects, like broken glass. It's more difficult to spot these dangers in a loose surface. Because mats and tiles are easier to maintain, they require less of an investment of money and time.

Playground mats and tiles made from rubber are available in a variety of sizes. Most playground tiles are square and interlock together to create a singular surface. Mats often are rectangular and are usually designed to be used alone or to butt up against another mat to create a larger surface.

Most of our tiles measure 2x2 feet, which we've found to be the ideal size for playground installations. This tile size easily can be installed and transported.

We advise using both the interlocking mechanism of the tiles as well as adhesives to ensure a secure, long-lasting installation.

We also recommend hiring a professional landscape contractor to ensure the safety and longevity of the playground area. However, the 2x2 foot tiles can be installed by knowledgeable DIY-ers, saving money on installation costs.

Some of our flooring tiles feature an aluminum clip installation system to secure the tiles together. Others have interlocking tabs that are glued together. Neither of these systems require a full glue-down installation, saving time and labor.

Versus rubber playground mats, singular swing and slide mats are designed with a different function in mind. These playground mats are intended to help prevent ground erosion. They protect high-traffic areas from wear and tear.

These mats aren't designed to create a safe, soft, cushioned surface. Swing mats are usually much heavier than slide mats or playground tiles, so they have the weight needed to stay in place.

For outdoor playground mat installations, we recommend starting with a hard, flat sub-surface. A compacted and leveled crushed stone base, concrete, or asphalt all can work well.

Rubber playground floor for outdoor use can be laid over sand, dirt, or grass, but we don’t recommend it. Gradually, the ground beneath the tiles will begin to erode. This causes the play surface to become uneven.

Some tiles will sink, while others will not, leaving tripping hazards and low-lying areas. Water pools in these lower areas, which accelerates the ground erosion, and the problem will worsen.

To avoid this situation, start with a sub-surface of compacted gravel or concrete. Though this may create more work initially, it'll require less maintenance over time.

Indoor installations of rubber flooring require only a hard, flat surface. The tiles can be laid directly on the subfloor.

Because playground tiles are modular, they're usable in installations of nearly any size or shape. To expand the play area later on, just add more tiles on the edges. Nearly all of our tiles have ramped borders (available separately) to create a smooth, safe transition onto and off of the play surface.

Plastic Playground Floors

PVC soft plastic playground tiles are more DIY friendly than rubber tiles. This is particularly true when installing them over a hard, flat indoor surface.

At 1x1 foot, the tiles are easy to maneuver. They include tab and loop connectors for a simple and fast installation. We also offer PVC tiles for playground floors which are 1.67x0.83 foot rectangles.

PVC playground mats don't require any adhesives. When installing the tiles over an irregular surface like sand, grass, or dirt, PVC tiles are the best option. They create a clean, finished, kid-friendly surface.

PVC playground floor tiles have ramped borders available to reduce tripping hazards. Don't install indoor foam playground tiles on top of rough surfaces, as the sub-surface can damage the tiles.
