Easy and fast install portable tap dance floor kit with wood grain look
Whether you're looking for a sturdy flooring for tap dancing in a studio setting or to set up a practice area in your home, the Tap Dance Floor 3x3 ft kit is an excellent choice. This tap floor for home tap dancing is going to stand up to plenty of traffic, while also giving dancers the feedback they need from a tap floor.
You, your students or kids can practice tap dancing on this wood grain finished material that consists of a vinyl surface that is connected to a plastic base that allows to you snap each tile together. The quality of the vinyl is outstanding, as it is of a commercial grade. And it looks nice with its wood grain finish.
This plastic base provides excellent durability, as well as a sturdy material to ensure good footing for the dancers. Each individual tile in the tap mat kit measures 1 by 1 foot in size. You'll connect each of the nine tiles to create the flooring area. When the kit is completed, you'll have a 3 by 3 foot tap dance flooring made up of nine modular raised vinyl top tiles atop the polypropylene plastic base.
As part of the kit, you'll receive the nine tap dance mat tiles, six male borders, six female borders and four corner pieces to finish all four sides of your tap floor.
Portable Tap Dance Floor
When you need to create a tap dance floor outside of your studio, you'll love the portability of our tap floor kit. You easily can pack up these tiles and transport them wherever needed, assembling them for use. Once your event is over, it's also easy to disassemble the tiles and return them to the original location.
If you're just installing this tap floor in your basement or garage at home, you may be able to make use of just one kit. The kit will create a 3 by 3 foot flooring area that works perfectly for one person to use as a practice area.
For larger installations, you'll want to use multiple kits or check out a portable dance floor product option, giving you plenty of space for accommodating multiple dancers. Because this tap mat flooring option is modular, you can create any size of floor. This gives the Tap Dance Floor Kit a tremendous amount of versatility. We do sell the tap mat flooring as individual tiles, should you want to create a non-standard size of floor. Contact our customer service team to determine what your ordering options are.
Tap Kit Use Cases
You can choose to create small island installations in a stage area or in the front of a room, allowing for seating to fill the remainder of the room. Or use a wall-to-wall installation to create a large practice area in a studio or at your home.
Our tap mat flooring kit is not limited to just tap dancing or clogging. Other styles of dance can take advantage of the high quality and durable flooring that we offer, including the following.
- Hip Hop
The tap dance floor can replace traditional tap boards in the home, on a theater stage, or in the studio. It is engineered for indoor and outdoor use (if installed over a hard, flat surface). It will not absorb moisture and features a raised plastic base that allows for air flow beneath the floor.
For ballet, modern, or jazz dancing practice, we would recommend a vinyl marley flooring material. Dancers with bare feet or with thin shoes probably will feel the seams in the tap tiles, which may not be the most comfortable, necessitating the marley flooring. Some dance studios will lay out these tap dance floor tiles and use them as a base floor for the types of dancing listed above. Then whenever a marley flooring is needed, they'll roll out a marley mat over the top of this flooring.
Just contact our customer service team to learn about options for some other types of dance floors that will meet your needs.
Creating Multipurpose Rooms
Some buildings that often are rented for multiple purposes may choose to have these kit tiles on hand to create dance floors for wedding receptions, anniversary parties, or birthday parties. A school may want to have this type of flooring available for school dances in areas where a portable floor is more convenient.
The tiles then can be disassembled to return the building back to its original flooring. These dance tiles are an excellent option for giving a room multiple purposes whenever needed.
Tap Kit Durability
Our portable tap floor is the best designed and most durable portable kit option on the market. The materials in our tiles are waterproof and feature a protective wear layer. The commercial grade luxury vinyl that sits atop the plastic base measures 3 mm in thickness. Each tile has a thickness of 5/8 inches with the vinyl surface and plastic base measured together.
You can wear any kind of shoes when using this flooring, as it will even stand up to clogging shoes. The tap mat kit is a Made in the USA product and features a 5-year limited manufacturer's warranty.
Our portable Tap Dance Floor Kit is easily assembled and disassembled, featuring a snap together design that can be used numerous times. No adhesive is required to create the kit floor, and you won't need any special tools.
Each individual tile weighs 2 pounds and covers 1 square foot. This means it's easy for one person to assemble the 3 by 3 foot finished kit. However, moving each completed kit floor may be a little more difficult for one person, as the finished kit covers 9 square feet and weighs about 18 pounds.
You'll want to install these tap floor tiles over a hard surface, which can include low-pile carpeting or other flat areas. Although our tiles are UV treated are able to be used outdoors, we do not recommend installing them over grass, as it may be too soft for the dance floor kit and permanent outdoor installations are not recommended.
Two sides of the individual tiles include male pegs, while the other two sides have female loops. You'll place the male peg over the female loop and step down until it clicks in place, ensuring the two tiles fit tightly together. For the layout, just point the female loop sides in the directions where you want to add more tiles and work your way through the tiles in the kit.
Once you have the loops lined up with the male pegs, you can step or push down on the edges of the tiles until they click into place.
The installation process is easy to follow, as long as you remember that the female loops should always be going in the same direction and the surface you're installing over is plenty firm. If installing over carpet, it may be handy to temporarily place a piece of plywood under the area you are connecting the tiles.
When you're ready to add an edge to your dance floor, you'll attach the ramped border pieces using the same process you used to install the individual tiles. Snap the male pegs of the tiles onto the female border pieces onto the, and snap the male border pieces onto the female loops on the tiles.
By purchasing individual tiles that can be added to the kit, it allows you to create a larger space or to create a rectangular shaped area of tap floor.
When you're ready to disassemble the tiles, just lift up on the edge of the tile that has the male pegs while pressing down or stepping on the edge of the tile with the female loops. The two tiles should easily separate without damaging the hook and peg system, as these tiles are made from a tough and durable type of polypropylene plastic.
If you have a large number of tiles to install or disassemble, we recommend using a pull cart so you can stack the tiles and quickly move through the room.
For a really large flooring installation, you also have the option when disassembling the tiles of leaving them in chunks of 2 by 2 feet or 3 by 3 feet. This will make the disassembly and reassembly process much faster, but the larger chunks of flooring will be a little more awkward and heavier for one person to move and align.
Tap Floor Maintenance
You will take care of this tap mat product as you would any type of vinyl flooring. You'll want to sweep the flooring on a daily basis to make sure it stays as clean as possible. You can use a damp mop on the flooring with a common household floor cleaner and water, as long as you avoid using bleach.
Depending on availability, you have quite a few options for the type of color or pattern designs in the vinyl on these tap mat tiles. The options include:

Mine did not arrive with instructions, so we initially put it together incorrectly. Once we went online and saw the instructions we reassembled it, and it seems to be working well. I think it’s helping my knees by giving me some cushioning between my feet and the cement floor of my basement where it is set up.
The Bronx, NY
Easy to assemble, extremely satisfied.

Boarder comes apart easily. Overall nice floor.

Dancing on the mat is great. It is built to absorb the impact of the dance steps so it isnt so hard on the ankles and legs when practicing. However, I found it hard to snap together...My palms were red from exerting so much pressure. Also, the edging keeps coming off as I am practicing. Once it is all put together, it isnt easy to flip it over to constantly fix the edges.
Just as advertised and fast shipping!
We love this product
The dance floor is easy to assemble, Infact, my daughter did it herself! It is a perfect size for my daughters "dance studio".
Description was accurate of tap floor, nice sound, and easy to put together.
We really like this dance floor and would give it 5 stars if we hadnt run into some problems with building the floor. We ordered 2 floors to put together... almost all of the pieces fit together perfectly, with the exception of 2 of the border pieces. The connectors would not, still dont, line up and it took a considerable amount of force to get them (sort of) connected. It doesnt seem to affect the use of the floor and the floor has been great for my kids to practice their Irish dance on.
My daughter uses this floor to practice her tap numbers. She loves it! Good sound and my floors are safe! I really would have appreciated directions on how to fit it together. There was nothing in the box but the tiles and edge pieces.
Had to pay postage to return even though we couldnt put product together
Package arrived in time. Customer service rep was very helpful..
This product - 9 tile tap floor kit - is supposed to snap together easily. It does not. once you have tried and failed, however, you have "installed" it - so it is not returnable.
We purchased our flooring for our son. He loves his new practicing flooring. Easy to put together and excellent product. The order arrived on time and was exactly what we expected. I would highly recommend this site and company. Thank you, Greatmats!
Working great as a practice pad as my daughter rehearses for the Rockettes audition! Couldnt be happier with the fabulous customer service and quick shipping!
I m 65 years old. This product was difficult to put together for the first time. If there had been some appropriate directions/hints it would have made my life so much easier! SUCH AS: 1. Check grain detail and direction first while tiles are face up. 2. Then try and get male and female sides to match. 3. Then put together in rows first then put the rows together. 4. The edges were a mess, maybe you could come up with help for that.
The mat is too shinny for tap dancing. You need to have a dull floor so you dont slip.
We really love our tap map. My daughter is 8 and its the perfect size for her little at home dance studio. It snapped together easy and the boarder around it makes it look very complete. I found the price to be very fair.
This tap dance board is just great. I enjoy using it. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that it is not so easy to store. I have mine behind a dresser which holds it upright and that works out well. The mat itself will come apart if you lean it against a wall so it has to be supported by something. Other than that it's simple to put together, slip resistant which is important for tap dancing, and stays firmly on the floor when dancing. I do recommend it to others.
Jensen Beach, FL
Nice mat that went together fairly easily. I leave it out down in the basement and every time I see it, it inspires me to do some clogging. Great for practicing steps.
Can I use this floor for ballet and jazz dance classes? My daughter does tap jazz and ballet and need to know if it works. I will put it on the second floor of the house which is wood. Thanks Maria
Would you recommend ''mounting'' this to some kind wood or mat? This would go in a carpeted room upstairs?
IF I want to make a larger dance floor can I combine kits? Or lets say I want to do an 8ft by 8ft dance floor what would I need to buy?
Im looking for a mobile dance floor for my son. We live in a decent size 1BR apt. I plan tonout this jn my LR, and I was wondering how many pieces is in one (1) pack? Thanks in advenced. Thomas
