Easy and fast install portable tap dance floor kit with wood grain look
For sturdy floors in a studio setting or to set up a practice area at the house, the Portable Tap Dance Floor 3x3 ft kit is an excellent choice. No matter how our customers have planned to use it, this tap floor arrived ready to stand up to plenty of traffic, while also giving dancers the feedback they need from a tap floor product.
Portable Tap Floor
It provides excellent durability, as well as a sturdy material to ensure good footing for a dancer. Each portable tap dance floor mat measures 1 by 1 foot. Connect all nine pieces to yield the 3x3 coverage area.
It has nine tiling pieces, six male borders, six female borders, and four corners to finish it perfectly.
Our portable tap dance floor is quickly assembled and disassembled, featuring a snap together design that can be used numerous times. No adhesive is required to assemble it, and there’s no need for special tools.
When moving outside of the studio, the portability of ours versus competitors is tough to bear. Easily pack up these portable dance floor tiles and transport them wherever needed, assembling them for use. Once the event is over, it's also easy to disassemble them and return them to the original location.
If installing it in a basement or garage at a house, one order should be sufficient. The size is ideal for one person to use for practicing.
For larger installations, consider connecting multiple kits, creating plenty of space for accommodating multiple dancers. Because this tap mat is modular, any final size is possible. This gives the portable tap dance floor a tremendous amount of versatility. We do sell extra segments for designing a non-standard size. Contact us to determine the best ordering selection.
Dance Flooring Installation Tips
An individual tile weighs 2 pounds and covers 1 square foot. This means it's easy for a single person to assemble it. However, moving the assembled portable tap dance floor might be awkward, as it covers 9 square feet and weighs about 18 pounds.
Install these onto a hard surface, which can include low-pile carpeting or flat areas. Although ours are UV treated and are able to be used outdoors, we do not recommend installing them atop grass, which may be too soft. Permanent outdoor installations are not recommended.
Two sides of the individual tiles include male pegs, and the other sides have female loops. Put the male peg over the female loop and step down until it clicks in place, ensuring the two fit tightly together. For the layout, point the loop in the direction to add more and work across.
With the loops lined up, step or push down on the edges of until they click into place.
If installing a portable dance floor over carpet, it may be handy to temporarily place a sheet of plywood underneath while connecting them.
To add an edge, attach the ramped border pieces using the same process. Purchase extra individual parts to create a larger space or to set up a rectangular shaped area.
When ready to disassemble them, just lift up on the edge with the pegs at the same time as pressing down or stepping on the side with the loops. They should easily separate without damaging the hook and peg system, as these are made from a tough and durable type of polypropylene plastic. It’s not quite a tongue and groove system, but it is similar.
For disassembling and storing a large number, we recommend using a pull cart to stack each piece upon it and quickly move through the room.
For a really large multi foot flooring option, consider leaving them stored in chunks of 2 by 2 or 3 by 3. This will make the disassembly and reassembly process much faster, but the large chunks will be heavier for one customer to move and align.
Sweep it on a daily basis, so it stays as clean as possible. Use a damp mop with a common household floors cleaner and water, but avoid bleach.
Depending on availability, quite a few options for the type of color or pattern designs can be ordered. The options include:

Tap Dance Mat for Studios
Create small island installations in stage areas or in the front of rooms, allowing for seating to fill the remainder of the room. Or use a tight to the walls installation for studios or at home. Our portable tap dance floor is not limited to just tapping or clogging. Other styles of dances can take advantage of the high quality and durable floorings that we offer, including the following.
- Hip Hop
The portable tap dance floor can replace professional tap boards on a theater stage or in the studio. It is engineered for indoor use and certain outdoor situations. It will not absorb moisture and is raised, so air can flow beneath.
For ballet, modern, or jazz practices, we would recommend marley flooring material. A dancer with bare feet or with thin shoes probably will feel the seams in this, which might not be the most comfortable, necessitating the marley. Some dance studios will lay out this portable tap dance floor as a base for the types of dancing listed above. Then whenever marley is needed, they'll roll out dance mats on the top.

Buildings that often are rented for multiple purposes may choose to have these on hand to set up dancer floorings for wedding receptions, anniversary parties, or birthday parties. A school might want to have this available for school dances in rooms where portability in the surfaces is a key.
They then can be disassembled to return the building back to its original look. These are an excellent option for giving versatility whenever needed.
Wear any kind of shoes with this, as it will even stand up to clogging shoes. This is a Made in the USA product and features a 5-year limited manufacturer's warranty.
FAQ Portable Tap Dance Floor Q&A
What are the best floorings for tap dancing?
Our portable floor is the best designed and most durable option on the market. The materials are waterproof and feature a protective wear layer for slip resistant performance. The luxury vinyls measure 3 mm in thickness. With the plastic lower layer, each has a thickness of 5/8 inches, while creating a beautiful sound quality.
Can dancers use taps on laminate?
Some will choose to use a plywood base and put laminate atop it. Although this is a nice makeshift selection, our DIY tap dance floor kits are a better choice, as they are safer to use and easily carried to any locale for practices.
What is a tap board for home?
This is a solid piece of tap floor that attempts to match the performance of our kit. The coverage and price are similar to ours, but because ours has the ability to be quickly disassembled, it’s far easier to store and use in a multipurpose room. Ours is built to last for the long term too.
How do you make a portable tap dance floor?
Using our 3x3 pre finished selection is a smart idea. Adding on extra tiles even can create a 10x10 portable dance floor or larger, so it has flexibility. A rollout tap floor atop sprung floors is possible too.
How much does a portable dance floor for home cost?
Our kits run about $100, which is a similar price to a tap dance board that doesn’t have the same portability features.
Mine did not arrive with instructions, so we initially put it together incorrectly. Once we went online and saw the instructions we reassembled it, and it seems to be working well. I think it’s helping my knees by giving me some cushioning between my feet and the cement floor of my basement where it is set up.
The Bronx, NY
Easy to assemble, extremely satisfied.
Sterling Hts, MI
Boarder comes apart easily. Overall nice floor.

Dancing on the mat is great. It is built to absorb the impact of the dance steps so it isnt so hard on the ankles and legs when practicing. However, I found it hard to snap together...My palms were red from exerting so much pressure. Also, the edging keeps coming off as I am practicing. Once it is all put together, it isnt easy to flip it over to constantly fix the edges.
Just as advertised and fast shipping!
We love this product
The dance floor is easy to assemble, Infact, my daughter did it herself! It is a perfect size for my daughters "dance studio".
Description was accurate of tap floor, nice sound, and easy to put together.
We really like this dance floor and would give it 5 stars if we hadnt run into some problems with building the floor. We ordered 2 floors to put together... almost all of the pieces fit together perfectly, with the exception of 2 of the border pieces. The connectors would not, still dont, line up and it took a considerable amount of force to get them (sort of) connected. It doesnt seem to affect the use of the floor and the floor has been great for my kids to practice their Irish dance on.
My daughter uses this floor to practice her tap numbers. She loves it! Good sound and my floors are safe! I really would have appreciated directions on how to fit it together. There was nothing in the box but the tiles and edge pieces.
Had to pay postage to return even though we couldnt put product together
Package arrived in time. Customer service rep was very helpful..
This product - 9 tile tap floor kit - is supposed to snap together easily. It does not. once you have tried and failed, however, you have "installed" it - so it is not returnable.
We purchased our flooring for our son. He loves his new practicing flooring. Easy to put together and excellent product. The order arrived on time and was exactly what we expected. I would highly recommend this site and company. Thank you, Greatmats!
Working great as a practice pad as my daughter rehearses for the Rockettes audition! Couldnt be happier with the fabulous customer service and quick shipping!
I m 65 years old. This product was difficult to put together for the first time. If there had been some appropriate directions/hints it would have made my life so much easier! SUCH AS: 1. Check grain detail and direction first while tiles are face up. 2. Then try and get male and female sides to match. 3. Then put together in rows first then put the rows together. 4. The edges were a mess, maybe you could come up with help for that.
The mat is too shinny for tap dancing. You need to have a dull floor so you dont slip.
We really love our tap map. My daughter is 8 and its the perfect size for her little at home dance studio. It snapped together easy and the boarder around it makes it look very complete. I found the price to be very fair.
This tap dance board is just great. I enjoy using it. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that it is not so easy to store. I have mine behind a dresser which holds it upright and that works out well. The mat itself will come apart if you lean it against a wall so it has to be supported by something. Other than that it's simple to put together, slip resistant which is important for tap dancing, and stays firmly on the floor when dancing. I do recommend it to others.
Jensen Beach, FL
Nice mat that went together fairly easily. I leave it out down in the basement and every time I see it, it inspires me to do some clogging. Great for practicing steps.
Can I use this floor for ballet and jazz dance classes? My daughter does tap jazz and ballet and need to know if it works. I will put it on the second floor of the house which is wood. Thanks Maria
Would you recommend ''mounting'' this to some kind wood or mat? This would go in a carpeted room upstairs?
IF I want to make a larger dance floor can I combine kits? Or lets say I want to do an 8ft by 8ft dance floor what would I need to buy?
Im looking for a mobile dance floor for my son. We live in a decent size 1BR apt. I plan tonout this jn my LR, and I was wondering how many pieces is in one (1) pack? Thanks in advenced. Thomas
