Sprung Floors for Dance

The sprung dance floor cost can be a hindrance for setting up sprung flooring. But we at Greatmats have this style of flooring in many different price points and styles, which means there are options to fit in any budget. Our portable sprung dance flooring is suitable for both use at home and in a studio setting, as it looks great and offers excellent durability.

Rosco Sprung Floors for Dance Studios

Greatmats is proud to offer the Rosco sprung floor panelized system, which is an industry-leading style of flooring. Using a pre-built panelized system, Rosco's sprung dance floor is easy to install. All dancers will appreciate the quality of this flooring, which has no soft spots, meaning dancers will stay healthier and be able to practice longer.

Rosco's sprung floors for dance work in any setting, as they're suitable in dance and ballet studios, in university settings, at home, at schools, and for professional dancer touring. All of Rosco's flooring is made in America, using only the best materials for excellent quality and durability.

No Sprung Floor Soft Spots

Within the Rosco sprung dance floor construction, the WaveLock design is the key to its excellent build quality. With WaveLock, the floating dance floor will have a consistent feel throughout with no hard or soft areas. It's a flexible style of sprung floor to absorb impact, while still providing a firm surface. The underside of our spring loaded dance floors contains closed cell PE foam pads that deliver stability, comfort, and safety for the dancers.

For dance studios that need a portable sprung dance floor, this design is a perfect choice. Our sprung dance floor construction involves a simple assembly process with individual panels that fit together perfectly. Our sprung floor system also allows for fast disassembly when moving the flooring to a new location for a recital, allowing students to practice on the same floor where they hold performances. With such a versatile design, our sprung dance floor cost becomes an even greater value.

Sprung Floor Customizing Panels

Rosco's single-layer sprung dance floor customized product is easy to install. With the DIY installation option for these panels, the sprung dance floor cost is economical. Our Rosco Customizing Panels only require a BCX plywood finished top layer at a minimum, which means nothing more than basic carpentry skills are needed for installation.

Should a particular dance studio have an odd layout, our customized sprung dance floors will be able to fit properly. Configuring these dance flooring panels to fit around pillars or to squeeze into an oddly-shaped room during a wall-to-wall installation is a simple process, thanks to the high quality of materials we use. Using the Rosco Customizing Panels along the wall allows for a nice, finished look at the edges of full panels.

These sprung floor custom panels deliver the same flexibility and spring base as the full Rosco panels, making them an economical choice for anyone needing a finished sprung floor. The custom panels do not have the MDF top, so installers need to add a separately purchased layer of finished plywood or MDF. Some people choose to perform a DIY installation for the flooring by using our custom panels throughout the entire floor, adding their own MDF top.

Dance Flooring Subfloor Underlayments

Dance Subfloor for Studios Elite is an economical dance sub-flooring solution by Greatmats. Underlayments help to separate your marley dance floor from hard concrete or wood floors. While not a direct replacement for sprung floors, underlayments do provide additional cushion for a more comfortable dance floor. We offer a variety of cushioned underlayment dance floor systems in foam and rubber at affordable prices. These sub-floor options are suitable for ballet, tap, modern, and other dance types.

Dance Floor Foam Tiles Underlayments

The Dance Floor Foam Tiles Underlaymentscalled Sport Plus Designer Foam Tile is the simplest underlayment to install. The durable 3/8-inch-thick high density EVA foam tiles interlock together like a puzzle in 2x2 foot squares. The foam underlayment provides essential separation between the dancer and hard concrete floors. This surface is ready to receive a rigid marley surface, such as Rosco Adagio, and is preferred by many recreational and home dancers. Install on any hard, flat surface with no adhesive. You can even cut the tiles to fit a wall-to-wall installation by using a utility knife. Marley surface sold separately.

Please note that this sub-floor material is not recommended for advanced ballet, as it may be too soft for average sized adult dancers.

Plyometric Rubber Sub Dance Flooring

For use with advanced ballet, we recommend our plyometric rubber rolls. This product is a low-density rolled rubber in 3/8 or 1/2 inch thicknesses. These rubber rolls offer ballet dancers the fast response and rebound needed when exiting pointe. The flooring also absorbs impact to reduce leg injuries.

Dance Studio Subfloor Elite System

The Dance Studio Subfloor Elite is a subfloor system which utilizes two layers to create an ideal dance floor. The bottom layer features 6 mm rubber material to provide excellent cushion. On top of the rubber is a firm, yet flexible layer of flat plastic tiles that provide proper support. Your marley surface (sold separately) is installed on top of the plastic tiles to complete the system.

Top 5 Uses for Sprung Flooring for Dance

  1. Add safety and comfort to your dance studio.
  2. Create a desirable dance surface for rehearsals or performances.
  3. Make your own home dance rehearsal space.
  4. Invest in a portable sprung floor for touring.
  5. Increase the time dancers can train with less fatigue.

How to Build a Sprung Dance Floor

Count on Greatmats to have all of the materials required for sprung dance floor construction. Some of our customers choose to purchase all of the materials from us, while others will be looking for a top layer to place over a cushioned base layer they already have in place.

When seeking a wall-to-wall sprung floors installation, most people must cut the pieces near the walls to create a proper fit. Some people will choose to only cut pieces along one wall for a faster installation, while others will equally cut pieces on either end for a symmetrical look. Either way, Greatmats has all of the materials needed.

Before constructing a sprung floor in a new location, we recommend that all parts be placed in the room where they'll be installed for a 24-to-48-hour period. This allows the materials to acclimate to the temperature and humidity conditions in the room, reducing the possibility of significant problems with shrinkage or expansion.

Hardwood Sprung Dance Flooring

The surface of sprung dance flooring typically will consist of vinyl or hardwood. Some of our customers choose hardwood tops when they're seeking a flooring style that can handle foot traffic as well as dance activities. Others may want a hardwood style to match the existing decor in the room.

Vinyl provides a nice level of durability and quality for a sprung dance floor too, all at a great price point. Some customers will choose a vinyl surface when they know they'll be rolling a marley floor over the top of the sprung floor for dance.

We offer a plastic dance subfloor option, which also works well for laying a marley floor over the top. And when the dancers will be using street shoes on the plastic floor, remove the marley top to keep it safe from damage. Be sure to tape the marley floor to the base to prevent it from sliding around during dance practice and performances. Most customers will choose to tape the marley floor at the edges for the best level of performance.

Safe Sprung Dance Flooring

In the subsurface of the sprung flooring, we use a perfect mix of materials to yield a cushioned floor with just the right level of bounce back. A floor with an overly high level of bounce, which many dancers call a trampoline effect, could cause the dancers to lose their balance. The Greatmats sprung floor for dance options will not cause a trampolining effect.

Through proper sprung dance floor construction detail, the installer will avoid having spots on the floor that provide too much or too little cushioning. Like the trampoline effect, these odd spots on sprung floors for dance can cause a dancer to take a misstep, as the dancer isn't expecting a loss of the consistency of the floor in a random spot. Count on Greatmats to offer only the highest quality of materials in spring loaded dance floors to keep dancers safe.

Dance Flooring for Schools

For schools that have dance teams, cheer teams, or show choirs, having a sprung dance floor on hand for practices is extremely valuable. Students will be able to practice for longer periods of time because of the cushioning that spring loaded dance floors provide. They will avoid problems with sore knees and ankles, no matter how often they go through the same routine at practice.

Our portable sprung dance floor works well in schools because it is easy to lay out for practice and then pick up after practice to return the room to its original purpose. With the durability and high quality of materials found in our floating dance floor products, schools will receive a good value on the sprung dance floor cost.

We wouldn't recommend using this style of floor for cheerleading practice where the students will be tumbling. But it works perfectly well for cheerleaders who are working on a dance that they'll incorporate into a competition routine.

Home Sprung Dance Floor Construction

Putting together a sprung dance floor for use at home is an easy process with Greatmats products. We offer a high-quality underlayment flooring system that's affordable and durable to pair with our sprung floor options. Dancers will be able to practice as long as they want at home with our subfloor options for sprung flooring, as they won't have sore joints and tired legs.

The sprung floor products from Greatmats have a cushioned layer that perfectly complements the sturdy footing on the main floor. Our cushioned subfloors for dance typically contain materials like soft foam that provide the desired cushioning.

Customers like using our Greatmats sprung dance floor products at home, because we have multiple options that can be installed as needed and then disassembled later. Install the dance flooring at practice time and then pull it back up and return the room to its original purpose between practice sessions.
